The site is a very small plot of land in the Sydney suburb of Alexandria. This extension project is about heightening the sense of space in the horizontal and vertical direction. Through the use of the spatial contrast between compression and release, together with with use of strong colours, this small extension maximizes the horizontal link to the limited garden spaces and the vertical link to the sky and tall trees beyond the site.Clever compact planning such as the elevated 1m wide bathroom allows for the stacking of services and therefore more living space. The narrow bathroom however compensates for its lack of width by having a dramatic double storey high ceiling.
