Wingate Hughes Architects is the firm behind iStrategyLabs’ (ISL) unique 17,000 square-foot office in the spacious and historic Wonder Bread Factory in D.C.’s Shaw-Howard tech corridor. ISL’s founder Peter Corbett came to Wingate Hughes to create his renaissance startup’s “cooler, older brother from Tribeca” space. In addition to style, the design speaks to how ISL dreams, works, and thinks. “Our hip and unorthodox design enable ISL’s world-renowned team to spark big ideas and invent brilliant campaigns,” said Gavin Daniels, co-founding principal of Wingate Hughes. “The intentional individuality of the design is on the pulse of ISL’s imagination and personality.”
The historic landmark designation of the Wonder Bread building sets the industrial backdrop and metaphor for ISL's creative production space. The loft-style space defies convention and is an evolution of modularized tech startups.
ISL’s entrance room doubles as reception and events space, and the impressively distinct, multi-use interior increases functionality. The dramatic alcove library provides space for weekly tech events, is a sound stage, lounge, and has a speak-easy hidden door to the production studio and green room.
ISL’s open central pantry and café border iconic Pantone-colored glass meeting rooms in which all finishes and furnishings were meticulously curated. The lounge sprawls into ISL’s work space creating flexibility in desk configuration for the growing agency. Recreation and recharging space is also here, offering places to play video games and decompress. Stand-out features include island meeting rooms with endcap collaboration space and a custom pipe nap pod encased in wood hovering above a sunken, felt gaming zone. Wingate Hughes’ mid-century modern classic furniture selections reflect a vibrant sophistication and an appreciation for the authentic.
