Visnick & Caulfield Associates completed a full scope, interior build out for the North American headquarters of tech company Amadeus, a global supplier of travel and tourism IT solutions. The goal for the 56,000 SF design was to create a space that would accommodate Amadeus’ diverse staff, all within an open plan. The result features an innovative design concept that VC describes as “Working Bee Hives”.
The main work spaces are outfitted with mobile workstations described as “swarming bees”, which allow employees to move and connect in clusters of twos, threes and fours, or detach for individual work. The working environment is thus extremely flexible, giving workers the option to change both the size and location of their workspace based on whom with and how they need to work, enhancing workplace wellbeing.
What remains static within the workrooms are “beehive” areas equipped with resources including display technology and standing height conference tables for informal meetings. The selection of high tops was strategic, working to enhance collaboration as they encourage team members to join gatherings at the casual “bar height”. Every hive is designed to provide an iconic sense of individuality.
A 4,000 SF multi-function room features an employee lounge, game room and a diverse coffee center reflecting the staff’s culture. The room’s functions range from a lunch room, to a corporate event space, and is outfitted with supreme AV technology.
VC also took into consideration the departments that require conventional work environments, such as accounting and HR, utilizing traditional workstations, while keeping the open feel.
Between the departments are conference areas for formal meetings. Glass walls enclose these areas creating acoustical privacy while still maintaining corporate transparency.
The concept is extremely leading edge, demonstrating innovation not only for the tech industry, but also across the full spectrum of workplace design.
