Ellivo Architects were recently shortlisted as finalists for a design competition, hosted by Cornerstone Properties. The brief was to design a new residential tower envisioned along Albert Street, Brisbane CBD. We are honoured to have been one of the few selected to take part in this exciting project and look forward to participating in future design opportunities.
While recognising existing landmark buildings placed at edge-points along the CBD, the site provided an opportunity for a new tower to serve as a landmark – a new reference point for the south west corner of the CBD. The expression of the proposed A&M Tower combines and contrasts the hard lines and materials of the city to the West, and the organic forms of the gardens to the East.
The personality of the A&M Tower drew from the neighbouring built-forms and dense greenery of the Botanic Gardens along the Boulevard of Albert Street. This vegetation was carried from the Ground Level to the mid-upper tower levels as a green stream growing along the Southern façade, linking to the elevated Sky Terrace at the 42nd floor. Lush pockets of vegetation were incorporated in all recreational spaces, providing a comfortable amenity for residents, while complimenting the surrounding context of the Botanic Gardens and Brisbane River.
