The Folly - Alvar Aalto Museum, Finland
The design intent of “the Folly” is to join two architecturally significant Aalto buildings through a celebration of both building and Architect.
Through the formal nod to the designer’s most famous curved shape and use of a reflective mirror material on the exterior facade, the new gateway honors the history, landscape and context of the site through reflection.
Rather than add a third element to the site, this gateway allows the two buildings to join through their reflections enabling the existing architecture to determine its own path. At night the form glows from within and highlights the formal presence of Aalto’s vision.
