Allsteel, a leading office furniture manufacturer, partnered with the design team to reimagine its current San Francisco Resource Center. The building, with three distinct areas, was used as an organizational tool telling the story of choice in the workplace. A bold accent wall runs the entire building length, unifying the space through a strong graphic pattern using 'International Orange,' the color of the Golden Gate Bridge, and reinforcing Allsteel's commitment to the local community. The roots of the 'Urban Forest' graphic builds upon the original design and reflects a confident, forward-focused Allsteel brand.
Visitors enter an inviting and warm communal zone where Allsteel's latest modular furniture products create casual groupings highlighting their versatility and sculptural opportunities. A new library, the heart of the resource center, was repositioned adjacent to the communal area to activate the 'front door' and provide a work area to select materials and product finishes.
One of the biggest design challenges was updating the space from the original design, completed in 2007, while keeping within the confines of the building structure. Through a cohesive design strategy addressing the building's unique form, the design team created a fresh, inviting environment with an emphasis on the product to tell the Allsteel story.
