Project “Allegoria Mosca” is situated in the heart of Moscow historical center at the place where Prechistenka street, Ostozhenka street and Prechistenka Gates square meet each other quite close to literary museums such as Museums of Aleksander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and Ivan Turgenev.
Site of the project includes two historical buildings of 17th Century which are called White chambers and Red chambers. White chambers are the former family house of Russian price Prozorovsky, at the end of 19th century it became a hotel and during Soviet period it served as a residential house. Red Chambers are the former house of boyar Ushkov and during Soviet period it used to be a restaurant and later a gallery.
It took Architects some relevant efforts to study the archive materials to identify the historical value of the place, its’ conceptual and geometric significance.
The main idea was to combine authentic Moscow architecture and elements of classical Italian palazzo. A small square formed by White and Red Chambers was turned into piazetta – cosy town square which was also quite common for old Moscow but has not survive to present time.
Small public squares where people can meet and talk remain an important public spaces for people which provides a sense of coziness and involvement at the same time.
In our project we are trying to get back to the lost format of piazzetta square to provide event content and infrastructure for future tenants.
It was decided to provide renovated structure open to the public to create a range of well thought out residential spaces and amenities and maintain the historical buildings at the same time.
The material palette includes natural stone for facades, transparent glass and a number of greenery plants. Working with classic materials architect helped architects to provide a seamless mix of historical and renovated parts of the projects.
