Allegato is a home emerging from place, guided by overlapping narratives that create a formal, elegant composition. The design reflects the owners’ journey, embedding the Māori notion of Wairua—a soul that has travelled yet finds stillness.
Deeply connected to its site, the house integrates genius loci and principles from Design; Building on Country, recognising land as an interconnected energy. The L-shaped form responds to existing conditions, reorienting the dwelling for improved light, privacy, and spatial flow. Sculptural roof forms, including an arc skylight, create dynamic relationships between light, materiality, and memory.
Thoughtfully curated materials—pozzolan brickwork, timber, and eucalypt-hued cladding—enhance continuity between interior and exterior.
Sustainability principles guide the design: passive solar performance, thermal mass retention, and a ‘less-build’ approach reduce environmental impact.
"Changes in the structure enhance use, with seamless indoor-outdoor connection, taking into account our interests—our bookshelf entry incorporates our large collection of books and important items from our life.” – Client Testimonial
The home is designed for ageing-in-place, to allow for a. future stair climber, handrails to be installed, level thresholds and generous circulation, ensuring adaptability over time.
A verdant cottage garden reinforces the home’s connection to place, acting as an urban biodiversity-sink. Allegato balances architectural refinement with liveability, crafting a home that is both deeply personal and environmentally responsive.
