A commercial realty advisor wanted to modernize the two-story high aluminum storefront entrance at a prominent high rise office building in downtown Toronto. The architectural design concept eliminated the vestibules and integrated an all-glass façade system with improvements in accessibility for a more equitable entrance. The new all-glass system featured high-performance coatings to improve energy efficiency and mitigated thermal bridging by eliminating aluminum framing. Water infiltration was addressed by creating new drained walk-off mats and stainless-steel portals around the entries to shield the door perimeter to wind and rain. The portals also concealed automatic door operators and provided location for the required fire-alarm pull stations and card readers.
