This project for Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School consists of a new addition on the south side of the existing school and specific renovations on the interior of the existing rated historic building. The addition is of two-story steel frame construction with masonry, metal panels, and curtain wall exterior walls. The addition consists of a new cooking kitchen and two-story dining and multipurpose space on the first floor and a new science lab, art room, and music room on the second floor.
The project engages the existing building in a historic/modern dialogue. Two volumes, one of brick masonry and the other of glass and metal, interlock to form this addition.
The building and site is designed and constructed to achieve a LEED for Schools 2009 Silver rating.
