This project represents the first and second of three stages, preconceived in an earlier draft of the master plan. The first stage comprised a new kitchen, living, and dining renovation; the second stage shown here comprised an extension of the study and renovation of the courtyard end of the house.
The functional brief was to replace the kitchen, provide adjacent dining area, cozy second living area, study, shed, rain water harvesting, and courtyard landscape works. Future works will comprise a reconfiguration of the existing main bedroom to incorporate a walk-in robe, ensuite, roof storage along with a renovated bathroom and laundry. This is a project of restraint. It picks up on cues from the original double-fronted Victorian cottage, retaining key historic features, while introducing a contemporary extension that aims to complement rather than compete with the existing house, adding as few elements as possible to achieve the result.
