A complex renovation project designed for a young family materializes into a 145 sqm residence with large windows and a 30 sqm equipped terrace that captures abundant natural light, allowing a panoramic view of the historic center of a small Sicilian town.
The project revolves around the central bookshelf and wardrobe, named Alberobianco, which gives its name to the entire intervention.
The need for an iconic element arises from a pre-existing structural condition characterized by a sequence of pillars and disjointed vaulted beams, requiring a design effort capable of concealing while simultaneously enhancing the existing structure through a white and enveloping shell that brings harmony to the space with a sequence of solids and voids. The coffered ceiling, in addition to housing lighting, also serves as a container for electrical and air conditioning systems.
A flooring composed of two materials, predominately porcelain in the living area and parquet in more private areas, initially hosts the entrance, living room, dining room, and kitchen before transitioning into the private bedrooms.
The living area is conceived as a unified space with walls covered to create ample storage that separates it from the rest of the house and the sleeping area, accessed through integrated doors in the container shell that connects the main space with the children's room and study and the master suite equipped with a walk-in closet and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub.
The project harmoniously blends white and colored tones in various spaces to distinguish different functions.
