The new residential building “Alaintiqual” created by 314 architecture studio is located in Glyfada, Greece. Inspired by the graceful curves of nature, the architectural design seamlessly blends organic elements with modern principles, enhancing the space with a sense of natural flow and harmony. This integration not only adds refinement but also fosters a contemporary ambiance, enriching the environment with layers of interest and originality.
Its distinctive element is the curved roofs which give the building a futuristic and dynamic look. These curves are echoed in the rounded edges of the building's balconies and structural elements. They provide a sense of safety and privacy giving the impression of a cocoon or a nest. This structure also provides a particular sculpture to the building creating a sense of fluidity.
The building also features semi-transparent curved elements that wrap around the structure. These curves rise vertically from the balcony edges, complemented by horizontal metallic fixtures that also function as shading devices. This interaction creates a dynamic visual effect with the solid curved projections. This feature not only accentuates the building’s unity but also contributes to environmental optimization and enhances the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding natural and built environment, ultimately elevating the quality of life in the urban setting.
On the contrary the extensive use of glass allows the natural light to flood the interior spaces and at the same time provide a sense of openness and connection with the outside environment, creating a subtle relation between the public communal area and the private space. “Alaintiqual” appears to have an open ground level with open and inviting elements with abundant greenery and plants that enhance the connection with nature. The plants not only enhance the aesthetic but also contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly design.
The studio draws their inspiration for “Alaintiqual” from organic and natural features as it can be seen by the curved roofs, mimicking the shapes of the cocoons or the eggshells. Also, the rounded vertical elements that encircle the main composition give an airy or wavy perspective to the building taking inspiration from the waves of the sea. It appears that the columns of the grounded floor were inspired by the formation of stalactites.
