In the heart of Damascus, Syria, Al Sham Bank by Reparametrize Ateliers transcends the realm of a financial institution. This project emerges as a vibrant social hub, meticulously designed to weave a profound reverence for the region's cultural heritage with contemporary elegance. Sustainability principles are woven into the very fabric of the design, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility alongside a commitment to human connection.
Drawing Inspiration from History
Drawing inspiration from the essence of historical Damascene residences, the design revolves around a central courtyard – a symbolic and functional element. This light-filled, airy space serves as the heart of the bank, fostering a sense of openness and fostering a seamless dialogue between past and present. The courtyard acts as a central circulation hub for both customers and staff, while a traditional fountain adds a touch of cultural heritage and further defines the overall layout.
The Allure of Al-Mashrabiya: Light, Privacy, and Beauty
The design incorporates intricate Al-Mashrabiya screens, a hallmark of traditional Middle Eastern architecture. These meticulously crafted screens, woven with geometric patterns, serve a multifaceted purpose – functioning as facades, partitions, and decorative details throughout the bank. Strategically placed, they not only define internal spaces but also utilize natural sunlight to enhance the ambiance, fostering a welcoming and open environment. The interplay of light and shadow through the Mashrabiya patterns adds warmth and visual intrigue to the interior.

The Al Sham Bank's exterior draws inspiration from Damascene stone and intricate patterns, infusing the building with a sense of cultural resonance.
