The design brief was to challenge the common practice of local mosque architecture that is heavily influenced by neo-Islamic architectural language, and attempt to create a contemporary structure that while achieves its functional and spiritual requirements, also becomes a landmark and one of the first contemporary mosques in Amman. The design was heavily research based and looked at historical examples of progressive practices leading to a complete abstraction of the elements of mosque architecture and complementing it with a computerized recreation of one of the most unique patterns found in the history of Islamic architecture. The pattern was reassembled and adapted using computational power and virtual simulation and implemented through digital manufacturing processes. Light and shade simulations made possible the creation of an internal environment rich in dynamic effects but minimalist in architectural elements and interior design.
