Akshardham Metro Station

New Delhi, India

STATUS
Built
YEAR
2015
Located near Akshardham temple at Laxmi Nagar, it was designed to be a complement of the Akshardham temple. It is the tallest Metro station within the Delhi metro system, having six levels and standing 16.5 metres above the ground and 21 metres from the basement. The external facade of the built-form is kept modest to reflect the temple architecture. Use of dholpur stone and designed inset advertisement spaces, gives a soothing appeal to the station. There are two entry points, one from the Akshardham Temple side and the other from the UP Link Road. The station serves commuters travelling to the temple and provided transport for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The biggest challenge was to incorporate aesthetics with an efficient and robust structure forming an imageable node of the corridor.
