This was an exterior and interior overhaul of the bus version of the traditional 1989 370LE Airstream silver bullet. We worked quickly in a design-build manner with Colorado-based builder Timeless Travel Trailers to reconfigure the 225 square foot plan and accommodate room for six people to sleep. Working around fixed items such as wheel wells, water tanks, and exterior storage, we reconfigured the main living space to allow for a dining area, efficient kitchen, and maximize the number of sofas for two parents and four children. Given the Airstream’s proximity to the outdoors and that it gets tons of foot traffic, we were keen on using durable materials such as stone and wood to make sure they held up over time. Installing marble necessitated we find an engineered product of stone veneer on lightweight aluminum honeycomb, since the weight of objects inside a moving vehicle cannot be heavy.
