Airship.01 – a cultural forest installation, which has been travelling from Padua, Milan to the city center of Rome in summer 2016.
The temporary structure shelters a hybrid forest patch, which provides the refreshing micro climate of a forest through natural evaporative cooling of the plants in collaboration with a spray-fog climate system. The low tec timber sphere is enfolded by a blank and shiny membrane to minimize the solar radiation impact and sustain a cool and healthy indoor and outdoor environment.
Entering the Airship installation, visitors can feel a rich sensual experience with the whole body and can refresh themselves in the middle of a forest glade, open to the sky – in the center of the city. At night the translucent membrane has a shiny appearance.
A sensitive ecosystem consisting of more than 300 plants, such as trees up to 5 meters, shrubs and leaves help creating fresh oxygen for a healthy and refreshing break from the urban surroundings.
During hot summer days the sun is reflected through the metallic membrane and creates a fresh atmosphere inside, where selected Austrian forest ecotypes together with the climate installation create a unique sensual experience. Airship 01 works completely independently and can be reassembled at any other place within two days.
After the successful Austrian pavilion breathe.austria at the Expo in Milan 2015, the team of architects, artists and designers ‘breathe.earth.collective’ was comissioned by the Austria Tourism agency to design a mobile installation.
The Airship presents a new way of interlinking principles of designing with nature and climate in an urban context and addresses emergent challenges in tackling climate change, urban heat island effects and air pollution in cities.
The temporary structure will continue it's tour to France, Bordeaux and Poland next year.
Enjoy and Breathe IN!
