KMA
Architecture & Engineering (KMA)
announced that designs are underway for the F-16 Aggressor Hangar
Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU), Green Flag Facility and track and field at
Nellis Air Force Base in Clark
County, Nevada. Retained by Jaynes
Corporation, KMA will provide design and architectural engineering services
for the project to comply with LEED Silver requirements when completed in fall 2011.
?KMA
worked closely with the Air Force and its consultants to develop the most
efficient and cost-effective design for all three of the projects,? said Don
Blair. ?We also incorporated the latest in sustainable technologies and
practices to stay in line with the military?s mandate to achieve LEED
certification.?
The $14 million project consists of a 39,797 square
foot aircraft maintenance facility, a 19,126 square foot Green Flag operations
building and a 9,500 square foot outdoor athletic complex.
The
project incorporates environmentally-conscious features including exterior sun
shades, large clerestory windows to provide natural daylighting, low-E glazing,
water efficient plumbing fixtures, walk-off grates at entries, low-voc
paints/sealants, and recycled-content materials.
The
design features of the hangar portion of the F-16/AMU facility include sliding hangar
doors for aircraft and a 5-ton bridge crane for aircraft maintenance. The
two-story AMU portion of the facility includes spaces for administrative
functions, training, supply storage, and features exterior decks. The Green
Flag facility, which provides support for pilots, includes both secure and non-secure
administrative spaces and a 150-seat auditorium.
The KMA project team consists
of Antonio Bernardo, Don Blair, Walt Chambers, Jen Gagne, Jay Janda, Heather
Mertes, Ilia Voronchihin, Alison Warren and Rey Zumarraga. The structural engineers
are Wright Engineers and Chavez-Grieves, the civil engineer is Wright Engineers,
the electrical and mechanical engineer is Jordan & Skala, and the landscape
architect is DW Landscapes Inc. Fire and life safety engineering services are
provided by Schirmer Engineering and the plumbing engineer is Dynamic Plumbing.
