$500K - 1M
The former Sümerbank Kayseri Textile Factory Complex (I. Nikolaev and Turkstroj, 1932-1935), abandoned due to privatization policies in 1999 and listed in the national inventories since 2002, was allocated to Abdullah Gül University, a new institution of higher education, in 2012. The master plan focusing on creating an open city campus that will become the interface between the academia and students and the citizens of Kayseri, in accordance with the education, research and societal service mission of the institution, designed by Burak Asiliskender, Nilüfer Baturayoğlu Yöney and Özlem Kevseroğlu Durmuş (for the AGU School of Architecture, was completed and ratified in 2014.
A restoration and adaptive reuse project for the former office (and probably original construction site office) building on the south side of the Fire Station Building was designed by Burak Asiliskender and Nilüfer Baturayoğlu Yöney. The masonry building composed of two series of symmetrical rooms on either side of a corridor and a multi-purpose space on the southern end went through interventions that may be specified as simple repairs. A later uncharacteristic addition on the south was removed and replaced with a small new structure, housing the campus medical facilities. The glazed façade of this section distinguishes it from the rest of the building. A small green house, located in front of this building has also been repaired, and is now used as a part of the green campus project.
