The program combines cultural functions such as a library, exhibition spaces and a multifunctional theatre with spaces for visiting artist working on the spot. In that way the “agora” as meeting space and space for exchange is linked to the academia as a space for study. The building is built up out of 3 different floor plans expressed by different types of structures (organisation and construction). Much more than just a simple stacking, the different levels blend into one another and different scenarios are created throughout the building. The first two layers are freely shaped and are formed by two interwining spirals around a core, the theatre. The external route which cuts the building block gives individual access and light to each seperate function while creating a community space throughout the building. The third layer functions as a roof permitting and sheltering the existence of the artificial landscape beneath it.External route, landscape, lobby, exposition space, public library, restaurant, workshops, artist space and offices create one continuous slab which splits up zigzags around the open multifunctional space (agora). Interesting vistas are not only created by the interaction of adjacent rooms but also between the rooms placed above one another. The design is not defined by walls and floors but by the movement of the visitor inside and outside the building. Like different scenes in a movie, the user will appear and disappear from floor to floor. When he moves inside the spiral, he turns around places for contemplation. More than a stacked landscape the buidling is a continuous experience with incidental focus points.
