Round, striking form; translucent frosted glass; integrated sensors for temperature, foot-traffic, and mood lighting--these are just some of the lingering impressions for the structure. Envisioned within Pioneers Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, amid a backdrop of green hills and trees, sloping pathways and large orbs of light to invite the user inside. I was impressed with the idea of a building that responds to climate and room intensity through sensors in the floor and walls. Inspired by bioluminescent creatures, like the firefly, I sought to create a design that can engage users with light and motion. Bulbous windows and smooth curves are intended to provide elaborate visibility for those inside and outside the structure. An afterglow is a comfortable feeling, following a pleasant experience. It was my intention to design this building to reciprocate activity, motion, and climate variation, specifically by using the walls and flooring to either pulse with light and color or adjust with subtle, subdued changes of calm. Ultimately, a sense of wonder is instilled, that is the goal.
