Affoltern Housing Development

Zürich, Switzerland

Firm
STATUS
Built
YEAR
2012
SIZE
300,000 sqft - 500,000 sqft
This development uses different heights to respond to the surrounding buildings in Zurich-Affoltern. Towards the road the buildings are connected at ground floor level to form an urban plinth and in this way protect the buildings behind from street noise. The positions of the large projecting balconies (which also have recessed areas) are staggered from floor to floor and thus sculpture the volume of the building. Together with the coloured parapets and metallic bands of windows they help structure the buildings and shape the character of the development.
