When Wendy Wunder said “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back!”, we all felt it. After all there is nothing like the feeling of coming back home. A space that exudes comfort, exhibits an aura of serenity, while relating to our inner persona and personalities. Hence the most unique factor of each well designed house, is in the fact that it bears an identity which is irreplaceable and almost incomparable. With this core ideology, Ocasa Design Studio created their recently completed project ‘Aesthetic Identity’ : a home where each space showcases a distinct sense of character through specific elements, and yet are bound by a common factor of graceful design.
With a set of clients who desired a contemporary home that is always ready to welcome guests, Srinivas Patnaik - founding partner decided to implement the idea but with a dash of Ocasa-ness! Apart from introducing vintage patterns and classic furnishing pieces as a part of their signature style, the Ocasa design team also inculcated a plethora of specific design interfaces that add a defined identity to every room. While each of these aspects were quite divergent in their appeal, their aesthetic semblance subtly ties each pixel with the other into a rather photogenic frame.
A short foyer, leading into the living area, embraces and grabs the attention with its smart usage of space. Featuring a sleek television cabinet, in shades of wooden browns, and a velvet seating arrangement; this living room reeks of classy familiarity. A low height gray storage unit associated with the TV cabinet, has been niftily designed with an array of lighting fixtures and a rubble stone niche; that reads as a levitated table when seen in a glance. However, the accentuating identity of this space is definitely created by a center table hand painted with an abstract face, capturing the concept of the entire home in a single dimension. Designed and manufactured by the Ocasa team itself, this piece of furnishing is beautiful, colorful and all over just delightful!
Perching forward, a connected 6 seater dining meets the eye. Complying to the initial idea, this space showcases subdued shades of blue, gray and brown; with an embellished wallpaper. A lotus motif, functioning as the handles to the china cabin, is the manifesting feature of the dining, thus establishing it as a graceful space where fond moments can be created over some food. The two bedrooms, similar to the other spaces in this home, possess contrasting qualities in a fine blend. While the master bedroom embodies a royal blue aura, the other quaintly sings a minimal white song. Plaid patterns and pristine textures is what the latter puts forward with modesty; but the former has an intricate cabinet handle detailing which is sure to remind you of the opulent eras. Vibrancy is what dictates the entertainment and bar area. Blanched with shades of bold red, it is the perfect space for a crazy party with friends filled with fun, laughter and magic!
While each project comes with its set of challenges, some major and necessary constructional changes implemented by the designers did pose obstacles, but finally aided to create a more unifying and viable home for the patrons. Amongst all the little amendments done, altering initial flooring provided by the builder, as it did not suit the selected design style; into something completely different required some considerable effort.
The design of this interior project, thus, just does not cater to the client’s desire of an energetic and contemporary home; but also aims to create a more dynamic & layered home bearing a strong identity of its own!
