Marking 7 years of collaborative partnership, Tacklebox Architecture was selected to design the New York Office and American Headquarters for Aesop Skin Care.
The design brief calls for architectural modesty with a domestic quality. The resulting environment is defined by the meeting of natural light and shadow with a restrained material palette of burnished concrete, industrial wool felt, grey-stained plywood, and polished stainless steel trim.
This is a space of production and contemplation that celebrates the individual while fostering collaborative contribution to the collective whole that is Aesop.
At the core of the office, a 27-foot long, cast-in-place concrete table is located directly under two large skylights. This sun-filled space, supported by an adjacent Vipp kitchen, is a place for communal gathering and events that celebrate Aesop values of food, literature, the arts, and community as integral to the environment.
Individual work desks are located at the perimeter, in close proximity to windows that provide natural light and rooftop views of the surrounding neighborhood of the Flatiron District in Manhattan. These individual work areas are supported by a series of shared meeting rooms, flexible breakout work tables, and a summit room. This spatial arrangement creates a flexible work environment that accommodates a range of activities with varying degrees of privacy while maintaining an overall sense of place within the Aesop community.
