A classic modernist office building issue solved. An interior partition
blocked access to light and air for employees open office area and
isolated management from staff. Additionally, heavy and poorly designed
furnishings placed against perimeter walls forced staff members to sit
facing away from one another, impeding communication and flexibility.
Boxes of supplies and marketing materials cluttered the remaining space.
The solution was made found in three moves. A smaller private office
tucked into the corner and enlarged open office running from the
perimeter window wall to the interior corridor wall which creates access
to light and air. A custom ‘community desk’ made of standard furniture
components which expands for additional staff or layout space; A
workroom masked by a removable pre-fab modular frosted glass and
aluminum wall masks storage and packing materials. Finally, the redesign
of the office allowed for the reconsideration of identity and visitor
orientation. An overscale wall graphic of the group’s signature kangaroo
logo immediately welcomes visitors.
