This project creates a family compound in the model of the Great Camp on a 700 acre property near Saranac Lake, NY. Working with Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architects on a framework plan that will see a Great Hall, multiple individual residences, a boat house, an onsen spa, a pub, and several recreational facilities that draw the family out and into these woods and lakes, the collaboration between client, site, and architecture is creating a very special place. The buildings use dark stained and vertically oriented wood cladding inside and out, drawing inspiration in form and material from the red and white pine forests that surround them. The large expanses of operable windows in public spaces allow for a full and immersive experience of these woods while private spaces are focused on warmth and more focused views to the site.
