In Barolo an event for vine is unlocking. For the beautiful wine that, growing on the smooth hills of the Langhe, satiated by light and sun, gives the grape, the earth song. But it is under a green blanket, sweet as the surrounding landscape, that, in a mysterious darkness, a new architecture is born.In a layer between the sky and the vineyards roots, the new building rises almost following the natural paths of the metamorphosis that transforms the grape in shining wine. The project is set with great kindness and nous in a valley, included between a narrow neighborhood street and a little branch. The deep research and insight in the face of the surrounding hills suggested the designers a volume that is almost completely covered by green soil, with the main floor of the enlargement arranged on a level wich is about 5.50m above the existing Adelaide farmhouse. The new silent volume, in this way, approaches the existing one with discretion, but with the power of a new and contemporary architecture. The enlargement surfaces with a volume high 2.50m facing north (the valley). The green roofing, moving away from the existing building, goes down until the ground, creating a smooth joint between the new volume and the existing ground level, giving birth to alittle circular inner yard: around this distribution, the volume expands itself like the little ridge of an hill that goes down to valley, like all the crown of the hills in the Langhe. The building appears as a long and tapered spine, completely underground with a green grass roofing. But the little spine needs a rising, a cut in the earth that, lifting itself up, unwarps, on the west facade, a great opening that shows the main entrance arcade and the little circular yard. This yard catches the eyes of the people arriving from the valley, presenting a transparent wall were there are the workers and the goods entrances. The path keeps going to the womb of the building, where there is the transformation of the grapes in wine, and it comes out in the same pointit went in. “Fermentation and transformation of the fruit created the rising of the covering”. The only part emerging from the ground is a sort of pocket opened toward the hill, adimring directly the ground that gives birth to the precious fruits of the vine. In this volume there is the tasting anda show room and from this space you can either go in the above cellar or outside, following a wiggly path that takes the visitor again in circular yard.It is a “earth building” that sings the triumph of the vine’s fruit.
