John Adams Elementary School Campus is the home for two separate schools, Adams Elementary and San Diego Global Visions Academy (SDGVA). obrARCHITECTURE was tasked with transforming the existing campus into two new distinct entities totaling over 35,000 square feet of new and modernized learning spaces. The design is inspired by a student’s experience throughout the entire campus, allowing for discovery and reflection both indoors and outdoors. SDGVA received a new two-story classroom building for their K-5 students, a new lunch court, and food serving kiosk. Adams Elementary received a modernization of their administration building and two-story classroom building as well as a new single story, (8) classroom early learning complex for their preschool and kindergarten. The quad in the center of the campus was redesigned to include a preschool playground, kindergarten playground, outdoor instruction, and gardening areas.
