How do we bring back to life a decaying icon? The history and importance that Pushkinsky Cinema represents makes us re-evaluate the conception of what an icon is and how an icon should interact with people. An icon will always be conceived as a representation or symbol; the conception of such can morph due to internal and external forces of thoughts and interactions. Taking in to consideration the affluence of people that visit Pushkinsky Cinema and Pushkin Square, and the saturation of advertisement that the façade contains, we have found it imperative that the re-generation of the façade needs to accept the inevitable presence of advertisement and people. By considering this we think that advertisement shouldn’t be the predominant image that presents the cinema but rather a tool for multimedia interaction of Muscovites and visitors that attend these places.
Our intent is to create process of personal interactions, which involves the spectator in the generation of the (spectacle) façade. We believe that by fully engaging the spectator with the spectacle, they relinquish their previous conception of the icon, developing a new personal conception, one that elevates the newfound symbolism of Pushkinsky Cinema.
