The project is based on 2 lines from the bible: “...for the tree of the field is man's life...”(Deuteronomy 20:19) and “...for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”(Genesis 3:19)
The multicolour sands dunes, which fit into the surrounding area, represent the multi-cultural victims of holocaust. They are wrapped by a weathering steel net, as being prisoners of the free world they never experienced. Out of that desert landscape, there is still hope to find a fruity tree; that everybody should stare; the future, the hope of freedom. That tree, we should protect (railing) to let him live his way.
The dunes (max. 5 feet high) leave a free view to the tree. While seated, it encloses the visitor into the memorial.
All seating zones points to the tree.
Only the tree and hills are illuminated (the project). The deck and railing remain in the same existing appearance.
