We were lucky enough to win a national held competition by invitation. TMM (Transportación Marítima Mexicana) wanted to develop a site at the Costera Miguel Aleman, which is Acapulco's bussiest avenue. The site was an atypical portion and proportion of land since it measures 20 meters wide by 200 meters long. The other two contestantd proposed a land fill on the ocean (in Mexico's beaches you can do that in mostly everywhere. There is a low that permits landfilling up to 80 meters). We thought that the best way to approach things was to do a building on top of the sea supported by columns in order to look like a dock. We strongly believe that Acapulco needs a tourist attraction, cultural, that is strong enough to atract visitors from all over because of the program and the architecture. The client agreed.
That was in 2003. Late 2003, TMM went almost bankrupt and the project was completely forgotten.
