The Academy of the City Charter School is a tuition-free, community-based public charter school currently located in Long Island City, Queens, New York. With its progressive educational model, the Academy’s goal is to motivate and prepare students to engage in a lifelong love affair with learning.
This project encompasses the renovation of a former Catholic private school, leased by the Academy in order to fulfill their mission and meet the community’s growing demand for charter schools that provide a good quality education.
The project scope covers the renovation of the outdated administrative office, as well as the lower level classrooms which will be used as a new Teachers’ Lounge and as classrooms for Special Education and English Language Learner programs. Upgrades will be made throughout to the electrical and plumbing systems, including kitchen, bathroom, and art/science room sink improvements. The “eight-over-eight” classroom wing will be energized with a simple application of new finishes that identify each room and aid in overall wayfinding.
