Academics Building

Firm
This building is located in the new campus of the UACH University in the city of Chihuahua. It’s design allows the accommodation of the school’s administrative area, a student attention office, consultancy offices and a small auditorium. The figure of the Academics building stands and it’s part of the pre-existing buildings; its appearance has character and invites the viewer to join it. The gardens with native plants fit perfectly, stating the place and time of the university.Primarily focused on the interaction between the student-teacher-adviser, the building will promote the working environment, linking significantly their relationship. The building, with it’s visual appearance and interior-exterior relation, the user feels a very well desired welfare. By using the heating and cooling system to a minimum, it’s possible to reduce the consumption of non-renewable energies, the building considers the re-use of gray water for gardens and the solar radiation as a heating strategy. Naturally lit during most of the day, the use of artificial lighting is significantly reduced. With this scope, the building is planned to use 50% of the energy of a building of a similar size and traditional construction. This building was a contestant in the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction Competition in it’s 2011 edition.
