SharpMinds Consulting Engineers completed the full redesign and fit-out of the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center (ADSCC), transforming approximately 2,200 sqm of space in the UAE capital. The project merged scientific precision with human-centered design to create a facility that reflects ADSCC’s pioneering role in regenerative medicine. The building’s most visible change occurred at its exterior envelope, where SharpMinds replaced the existing curtain wall with a contemporary system of vertical aluminum fins and high-performance glass façade.
This intervention reduced solar heat gain, enhanced the center’s architectural identity, and created dynamic light patterns throughout the day. The interior layout was reorganized around a central circulation spine that linked public, administrative, research, and support zones, improving wayfinding and maintaining the required isolated separations. Glazed partitions balanced transparency and privacy: clear glass encouraged collaboration, while frosted sections protected confidentiality and allowed daylight to penetrate deep into the building.
Every design decision incorporated environmental responsibility. The completed facility achieved significant reductions in energy and water consumption, diverted construction waste from landfill, and used low-VOC materials to ensure excellent indoor air quality.
