ABC Food, a joint venture between ABC Carpet and Home and renowned chef Jean-George Vongerichten, offers diners local farm-fresh food served in a sophisticated setting that blends natural and synthetic, city and nature. Two key elements, an extra-long bar and a backlit ceiling, animate the restaurant. The ceiling is incised with an abstract pattern that evokes a forest tree canopy: it dematerializes the edges of the interior, creating the impression of al fresco dining. Made of digitally fabricated recycled acrylic, the ceiling consists of four irregularly shaped modules that can be tiled to avoid the appearance of serial repetition. The elongated spalted maple bar spans the length of the restaurant, forming a communal dining table at one end and a bar on the other. This monolithic sculptural element resembles a tree fallen in the forest and serves as a place where customers can sip fresh fruit juices by day and fine wines at night.
