Located on a bluff overlooking Abalone Cove, this residence is tucked in between Highway 1 and the coastline just south of Carmel, California. Given the unique location and climate, the design is derived in part from both classic English country houses and more modern coastal California homes. Careful landscaping with native species, restoring the natural bluff, and protecting public view sheds were critical elements of the project. A narrow 2-story plan limits the ground coverage and provides spectacular views over the bluff edge to the numerous natural features up and down the coast.
