Completed in December 2013, “Casa Abadia del Maestrat” Hotel is a new 6-room boutique hotel, restaurant and bar contained in the old Abadia House, in the small village of La Serratella, in the heart of the mountains of Castellón. The hotel is located in the main square of the village, attached to the church.
Addressing the provision of an extension in the form of a building, the project also included the restoration and refurbishment of the existing building for its new use as a hotel.
The aim of the project was to preserve its native Maestrat region architecture, along with its small-town character, and to create a unique atmosphere. The project maintains the local architectural features, like the typical stone walls and wood, but introducing new materials like glass, concrete and corten steel—new materials for new uses, for the new life of the existing building.
There is a restaurant, a lobby and a reading room on the ground floor, six rooms located on the first and second floors, and a small spa on the third floor, close to the bell tower of the church. There is also a terrace with a breathtaking view of the region. On clear days, even the sea is visible from there.
