A’ri.na is a new restaurant with a strong identity — it is the brand's first project which brought forth the need of a strong design and architectural concept.
The main idea was to combine an artisan bakery, with a signature cuisine bistro place. Through the use of proper materials and lighting, its atmosphere transforms during the day. It is also a place that can serve both takeaway or eat in services.
Taking into account these considerations, the need arose to create a warm and welcoming environment based on a unique architecture unique to this place. As a result, the palette of materials and colors becomes decisive from the first design stages — timber, warm grays, concrete and marble as well as details that link the design with the place’s branding.
It was necessary to have two kitchen areas, one on the upper floor for the bakery and one on the ground floor for the rest of the dishes, it was also important for customers to know that the bread is baked on site.
The user’s experience inside the space is an important factor; to consider how the human scale feels inside both the double height space in the entrance and the area below the mezzanine. Ducts, lighting and equipment will at some point be visible yet they will merge with the ceiling design in order to harmonize. Architectural and decorative elements are used to achieve that synergy.
Timber becomes a main factor within the space ¬¬— clear oak is used in floors, walls and ceilings to create a sense of comfort.
The staircase was not designed as an isolated element — on the contrary, it becomes part of the back side of the marble counter. Delimited by a timber lattice wall, it evokes the design of the ceiling. It is a light division which allows some views and generates a set of lights and shadows that contribute to the experience.
