Set in a rose garden, it is the third iteration of the Derby Summer House, a garden folly was originally commissioned in 1973. Samuel McIntire, noted American woodcarver and architect, designed and executed the original Derby Summer House in Danvers, Massachusetts .Our design aspires to continue the historic narrative of the originals, while adapting the spaces and functions to suit our clients. Ionic pilaster capitals of the original have been adjusted to incorporate a rose decoration to reflect this folly's rose-filled setting. Conditioned by a geothermal mechanical system and served by smart home technology, the ground floor houses a bar and lavatory, while the upper room is a painting studio. Upon completion of construction, this work was honored with a Historic Preservation Award.
