The study deals with an existing traditional building in the semi-mountainous Cyprus. The building program required the restoration and extension of the building, in order to be transformed into a modern house. Its existing parts were completely restored, thus keeping the historicity and authenticity of the building unaffected, while the changes and additions required by the building program, were performed without imitations, but with a morphological distinction between the new and the old. Thus, the addition which unifies the composition, is consisted by a plane of exposed concrete, on which the metallic structural system is anchored. Wooden blinds enfold the volume of the addition, operating as passive sun protection devices. The combination of exposed concrete, metal and wood in the new part of the composition, separates the modern building techniques from the traditional technique of stone masonry, used in the existing parts of the building.
