Knowing the importance of the 911 Memorial for Downtown Tampa and to the families of those who died and the country as a whole, the team approached the project with respect. Equally important was the fact of relating the proposed memorial to the existing conditions and design of the Joe Chillura Jr. Courthouse Square Park and the need to stay within budget.
Each of the 2977 people who perished in the September 11th 2001 events is commemorated with this Memorial that bears their names on the individual glass pieces. The Memorial features four walls that are composed of steel and glass. Each wall represents the four planes and the four places they collided.
The Steel beam section from the Word Trade Center is integrated between the two verticals walls in the center as a symbol of a Nation that still standing regardless the adversities. The monument’s rounded shape is as powerful as it is simplistic.
