OKW has been the sole Architect hired for Reimagine 900, a comprehensive refresh of the iconic 900 N Michigan. This project has included bringing a modern, inviting, and experiential environment to the retail core and the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, in addition to the build-out of Aster Hall, a brand new and high-tech food hall. Through design charrettes, technical investigations, and precedent studies, OKW was able to integrate new thinking within the context of a Mag Mile icon.
As the project’s Architect of Record, OKW reimagined the entry to the retail center, replacing a tight and dark portal with a bright and glassy opening that drew in pedestrian traffic. Inside the multi-story atrium, our team installed what were the largest LED screens ever in Chicago on the ceiling, which drew the eye upward to the many high-end retail stores spread across the mall’s perimeter.
In collaboration with AvroKo, OKW created a fluid food hall where customers use kiosks to choose among a wide variety of cuisines. The space was brightened and connected thanks to a dramatic stair that united the open dining plan below with a high-end bar and lounge. Lastly, OKW worked with Rottet Studio to provide a significant architectural elevation to the world-renowned Four Seasons Hotel, from its lobby to its coveted Presidential Suite.
