8 WASHINTON STREET RESIDENCES
SAN FRANSISCO
The 8 Washington residential project builds on the momentum of improvements to the central and northern San Francisco waterfront that began after the removal of the Embarcadero Freeway. This project transforms a surface parking lot into a vibrant waterfront community of residential housing, neighborhood-serving retail, restaurants, community fitness center, and underground public parking. A sophisticated sanctuary situated between the downtown business district and the vibrant waterfront. The convenient location near the Ferry. Building provides access to shops, restaurants, a farmer’s market, local public transportation and weekend escapes. Pedestrian streets and lush courtyards provide privacy and connection to nature and community. This full service building offers many amenities including concierge services, library, private event spaces, a screening room, wine cellar and private dining at the corner brasserie. Residents may relax and unwind at on site fitness, salon and spa facilities or at the nearby tennis courts and pools.
.The architectural design draws inspiration from adjacent neighborhoods, the historic structures along the waterfront, and the gracious collection of open spaces that surround the project, articulating principles of contemporary and environmentally conscious design. Materials are selected for their harmony with the historic piers and ferry building, their ability to weather and age gracefully, and their warmth and texture at a human scale. Limestone gives a warm and timeless quality to the building’s base. Wood-frame windows and cast bronze railings provide a warm and finely-detailed scale to the building. Articulation of the facade allows for an interesting play of light and shadow while giving privacy to residents.
The communal amenity spaces are set around a courtyard garden and are residential in scale and character. The interior design of the residences provides clean lines, details and materials allowing for either contemporary or traditional furnishing. The exceptional views of the San Francisco Bay are captured an accentuated by the layout and configuration of the private and public areas of the residential penthouses. In all aspects of building and interior design sustainability is a priority. the project is pursuing a LEED Gold Rating. Credits: Designed with SOM, LLP as Architect of Record.
