SBA completed renovations to improve the exterior of two existing three-story commercial buildings at 888 Washington Street. New construction links the existing structures and creates an open three-story atrium space. The simple, economical design uses large overhangs, deeply recessed windows, and vertical structural fins to provide a sunshade to the curtain wall, contributing to energy conservation.
The front of the completed linked structure responds to the facing commercial street with an atrium and transparent curtain-wall entrance that brings natural light into the space. The rear of the building, which is adjacent to a residential neighborhood, features a large sunken courtyard and offers outdoor space for employees to enjoy.
