The building, located in the SoHo Cast Iron District, was designed by Jesse W. Powers, and built in 1875-1876. It was designated as NYC landmark in August of 1973. The property is a mixed use commercial and residential building.
Upon our initial inspection, it was apparent the effects of weathering over the last century had severely deteriorated the cast iron components many of which had been removed. We worked closely with the Community Board and NYC LPC to replicate historical details. Major cast iron elements were dismantled, the structural supports were replaced or reinforced, damaged cast iron was replicated in fiberglass, and the entire façade was reassembled and waterproofed. The new cornice is a replica of the original, but with a recessed center bay. It allows for the removal of the center portion in the future, and for the installation of a decorative arch replicating the original. Aside from the cast iron façade, other elements of the restoration included the roof replacement and restoration of the diamond plate and granite sidewalk.
