The 764 Madison Avenue entry, lobby, and corridors were renovated as a vertical "white-box" gallery. A large-scale experiential painting was developed to cost-effectively enliven the daily routines of tenants while elevating the interiors to attract new high-end stores and galleries. The ground floor was gut-renovated while the upper floors were more selectively renovated. Large concrete slab tiles, new signage and lighting, a new security system and new frameless glass doors were installed in the entry and lobby. Custom post caps were created to restore the Victorian handrails, top to bottom. The upper floors were minimized, stripped of old renovation layers (build-outs, light fixtures, conduits, pipes, etc.), with new contemporary lights added to both update and brighten the general atmosphere. Everything was then "white washed" to feature the art installation. The rectangular fields of color were applied directly to the walls, ceilings, and handrails throughout - strategically placed as if slipping across the various surfaces, some rectangles aligned with new "wave" lights to appear as if lifting off the walls - the color-fields, like the random passersby, engaged in an ongoing dance with the building.
