In 2020, PILLS Studio, in collaboration with producer Yadong Zhang and commissioned by Beijing 751 Park, innovatively melded sound art installations into the industrial relics of the 751 Factory, a pivotal energy supply landmark in Beijing. This project infused the park with sustainable, low-cost development while fostering a novel connection between spatial and auditory experiences. By implanting modern-era speakers within this industrial heritage setting, they aimed to revitalize the space with rich soundscapes, creating immersive scenes that blend the past with the present. The initiative included four distinct soundscapes — "dragonfly," "fox," "rabbit," and "hedgehog" — each ingeniously integrated into the park's existing structures (like the cracking furnace, pipelines, and gas storage tanks) to guide visitors through a reimagined understanding of these historical sites. These installations activate the industrial space with dynamic sound fields for an encompassing sensory experience and serve as a bridge between the park's industrial history and its contemporary urban renewal, turning it into a living narrative and a tactile museum of collective memory and interaction.
