In 2016 Third Millennium Group developed and built a 13,088 square foot garden in downtown Chicago. A portion of an existing surface (parking) lot was redeveloped transforming the space into an urban oasis. The private garden is open to the public and is enjoyed by tenants of 540 West Madison, their employees and the surrounding neighborhood.
The landscape design was collaboration between Third Millennium Group, Sharon Eshet owner of SHE architecture&design (Israel) and Wolff Landscape Architecture, Inc. (Chicago) and features contemporary twist on the classic English garden. Complete with secluded paved walk ways, an abundance of bench seating and a cluster of tables with seating and sun umbrellas the space is an ideal sanctuary within the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago. The garden reflects a variety of plantings to include Regal Prince Oak trees, Green Velvet Boxwood, Hetzi Juniper, Blackhaw Vibumum, Columnar Hornbeam, Carpinus Hedge, European Beach, 6’ Caliper Autumn Blaze Red Maple Trees, Triumph Elms, Hicks Yew and a variety of perennials, ornamental grasses and ground cover
To further support the neighborhood a dog run was incorporated, this area reflects a 900 SF contained play space for neighborhood dogs to run freely off-leash and includes a drinking fountain, agility walk, step up table and bench seating for dog owners. This commitment to the community is the first of its kind to be incorporated into a commercial office building in Chicago.
540 W. Madison is 99% leased, is a LEED Platinum building, certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
