5 Science Park drive is a new 26,000 sqm landmark development that sits within Singapore’s Science park drive 1. The fundamental lighting approach was to plan the development with hierarchies of illumination strategies and ecological opportunities, with a suitable response to address the needs of a harmonise and prominent expression. The building’s fabric was focus to enliven with technology, to create an inclusive facade lighting design referencing the urban context.
The elegant movement and colours of the facade lighting at every hour mark, are generative and elemental. It drifts and changes visual hues across the edifice; inherent in the lighting scheme is a celebration of engaging and connecting. It is an architectural lighting choreography merged within the accordion iconography, delivering a stunning visual statement; a first in the city state of Singapore.
The building features a triple height city room with a cascading communal lobby space, the perimeter back painted glass and wooden texture wall are illuminated in warm white from the concealed ceiling detail, forming vertical illuminance as a counterpoint to the dark visuals of the glazing after dusk.
At level 3, the landscape deck covering the adjacent carpark are subtly layered with light. Star trails of inground lights at the diagonal footpath, guides and enticed users. The space is illuminated with soft uplighting to the trees and concealed illumination at the wooden benches; multiple miniature projectors on poles hide amongst the trees, and creates shadow displays of foliage
